Slovenia
Crossing into Slovenia felt different.
The roads were suddenly smooth, the air a little lighter.
It wasn’t part of the original plan—but it turned out to be a detour worth taking.
Clean towns, kind people, stunning landscapes.
A quiet gem I didn’t see coming.
I’ll be back.

I had no expectations for Slovenia.
And maybe that’s why it left such a mark on me.
From the very first day, I felt at home.
We passed through valleys full of hop fields, climbed over hills, and landed in a small village where they served giant pancakes that felt like a warm welcome.
Then on to Ljubljana, where Andreas, our Airbnb host, opened his door and his heart to us.
We took the cable car to the city’s highest point, watched the light fade over the rooftops, and knew we had found a rare kind of calm.
Further north, the land changed again.
Crystal-clear lakes, towering mountains, and a chalky warm lake that kept us cozy long after the sun had disappeared and the cold crept in.
Then came the descent:
Hairpin curves, brakes glowing, rubber melting as we dropped into the Soca Valley.
Yes, literally melting.
We were gifted a rafting tour on the ice-cold, turquoise Soca River – a moment of shock, thrill, and pure presence.
And then the south – where vineyards stretched toward the Italian border, golden and endless.
Slovenia was a surprise. A mosaic. A quiet kind of magic.
And one of the most beautiful places I could ever recommend.

✍️ Experience Snippet
I almost forgot it was my birthday.
We were in Ljubljana, mapping out the next steps.
Elevation and timing had to be precise –
because on a bike, there’s no turning back.
The route we chose was tough.
More uphill.
But more beautiful than anything before.
One of the most stunning legs of the entire journey.
A quiet gift I hadn’t expected.
