Italy

We only spent a few hours in Italy.
Not enough to get to know the country, and too short to form a real impression.
Still, it was a part of the journey—brief, but worth remembering.

Our time in Italy was brief –
too brief to do it justice.
Just a short crossing, a moment between chapters.

But still, I remember it clearly:
Standing on a hill above Trieste,
catching our first glimpse of the sea since the journey began.
Yachts, cruise ships, the open water.
It felt like something had widened inside me.

That night, we looked for a place to sleep.
We found it – sort of.
A roadside parking spot, between camper vans and the water,
rats rustling in the dark.
Not glamorous. But unforgettable.

The next morning, we were already on the move again –
crossing the border into Croatia.
Italy stayed behind with a handful of photos
and a strange little memory I won’t forget.

🌊 Trieste – our first glimpse of the Mediterranean since the beginning of the journey.
A charming old town, a harbor full of yachts and cruise ships, and one unforgettable night camping on a simple parking lot near the sea.

✍️ Experience Snippet

We stood on a hill,
looking down at Trieste and the open sea.
Our first glimpse of the Mediterranean.

A woman approached us.
Curious. Warm.
She looked at our bikes, asked where we were going.
I told her.

She smiled, visibly moved.
“I wish you a beautiful journey.”

Just a short moment.
But it stayed with me longer than the view.
